  9. Originally, I had thought that this particular tree was a Water Oak. They are native in Arkansas. I had never noticed the little chains of flowers on the leaves as they budded before… nor the fuzzy reddish-green baby leaves. I was amazed when I got up close to them that they were so soft and pretty. I just had to take a picture. After studying the tree some, I decided that I wanted to know what type of oak it was (oaks have acorns, so I knew already that it was in the oak family). There is such a long list of oaks. After careful study, however, I am certain that this is a Blackjack Oak.

    It looks pretty similar to the Water Oak, except for the tips of the leaves.
