I bet you are chuckling at the title. I should have had this update on the blog Monday. Now I’m nearing the end of week three. I’m going to have to sandwich both in to one post. Hope they don’t mind over at Mamavation.
Let me just tell you that I HAVE lost a little weight. It has been fluctuating lately, but more on that later…
After staying hungry the first week and in to week two. I did some research and found this total energy expenditure calculator – saying that many diet sites were aiming too low for calorie consumption. I did some editing to My Fitness Pal to add about 80 more calories in to my plan after reading this and the hunger got much more manageable. I also read that if you don’t get enough nutrition you can start to burn muscle, get weaker, and go into starvation mode. None of those things sound desirable, so I err on the side of a few extra calories, not a bunch less than I need.
As you can tell, by the photo of me up top, it hasn’t been really WARM these past two weeks. Our nice walking weather was a distant memory. We did more indoors exercises and got in fewer walks. I set up my Netflix queue to send us a movie, then a workout video… all the way out to 26 rentals. I’m not going to get bored of a workout routine if I keep this up. Right now we are doing Total Looser Cardio Burst Routine. I tried it with 8 lb. weights (took 3 days to recoup).
I’ve made some really good choices. Probably much more good choices than bad ones – despite only losing a few pounds so far. Less fat, less filler carbs, more veggies, less bad snacks, more motion, much more water… baby steps. There above is my taco salad on the night when the rest of the family was eating tacos with shells, beans and Spanish Rice. My dessert was a sliced avocado with salt and chili powder. I liked it as much as chocolate, and that’s saying a LOT.
I’m finding at day 18 that I don’t really miss the sweets like I thought I would. The couple of days (my 20 year wedding anniversary and the day after) on which I have caved in, I regretted it almost immediately. The cupcake and the muffin I had on those days were NOT worth the calories. Truly.
What really has been difficult for me is comfort food. I LOVE Mexican food. I was doing so great a day or so ago and despite my cupcake day and muffin day, I had lost weight. I was only a pound away from my goal weight on the Run Your A$$ Off Challenge. Then I got cocky and ate out last night – THREE chicken fajitas with tortillas, beans, and about half of my Spanish Rice. All of it besides the rice and tortillas were not BAD for me… but it was a thousand calorie meal; and the next morning, the scale piled on two extra pounds.
I’m having a hard time regretting eating those tacos, though. Even if I lose my 10$ bet. I want to be healthy… but it is really tough giving up the tortillas and rice. Especially when your family isn’t giving them up. All five of the other people in my house love them, too. Guess who gets to cook them?
Yep. The soon-to-be-skinny lady with the Taco Salad in front of her, that’s who.
On the upside, I found that I love brussel sprouts. I roasted them with salt and olive oil and the next night, I ate the leftovers with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. No one else in my house would touch them. I’m getting to know and love a lot of healthy new friends as I try to reprogram my eating habits.
I’m also drinking a LOT of water. I think I hit 7 glasses today. I’ve been hovering around 5 for the past couple of weeks, so 7 is a big deal. Someone on the DietBet said they “practically waterboarded” themselves and it helped them lose weight. I’m praying that scale drops at least 2 lbs. in the morning.
In other news, I got the FitBit today in the mail and immediately hooked it up and synced it to My Fitness Pal. I can’t wait to talk about it next week!
How about you? What are your pitfalls when dieting or exercising? What are the foods you can’t resist? What good things have you found to help you maintain your goals? Any tips?
I have ten days left of my DietBet.com challenge to lose 2.8 pounds.

I have to fight my children for the roasted brussels sprouts. Try drizzling a little balsamic vinegar on them. Your world will never be the same. π

I loved reading this π I’m in the midst of my own weight loss battle. Laughing Cow and Skinny Cow products are rapidly becoming my favorite foods. We have six kiddos, so it’s hard to keep the sugary snacks out of the house. I keep two baskets in our kitchen: their snacks, and my snacks. If I’m tempted by one of their Swiss Rolls or Nutty Buddies, I reach into my basket for a mommy treat.
