During the past two weeks of traveling across Texas and consuming a preposterous amount of comfort food and sweets, a special date came and went quietly… my 8 year blogging anniversary. In blogger speak, that would be my “blogiversary”.
EIGHT YEARS AGO I STARTED THIS BLOG. That doesn’t even sound real.
Trapping Google Searchers From June 8th, 2005 to June 8th 2013 … and Beyond.
A lot can happen in 8 years. I went from a mama of 2 little homeschooled kids, to a mama of 4 kids – two homeschooled teens and 2 preschooling toddlers. Three pregnancies, two childbirths, over 33 months of nursing, and I’ll let you know how many daipers when the two year old boy is finally potty trained (just kidding, I’m not Rain Man, I’m not counting).
I’ve grown a lot in that time period… and have enjoyed sharing a little window into our lives with you.
I started out just like any other mama out there. I hadn’t ever heard of homeschooling; or blogging for that matter. In this picture, my teenagers were one and three… and I didn’t know it then, but I would begin my homeschooling journey about a year later, the same month that 9/11 happened.
If you look closely, my two little ones (now two very BIG ones) resemble my young guys (pictured at the bottom of this post) — almost an identical set, barring the fact that this time I have two boys instead of a boy and girl.
We started homeschooling to turn learning in to an adventure… and amazingly, it opened up a new attitude towards everything in life – all of life is learning, and learning is fun! I wanted to share about our life-learning-adventure online… and that ended up spreading to all areas in our life… cooking, gardening, art, photography, academics, parenting, traveling, field trips, blogging, and pretty much everything else.
Life moves fast. Eight years goes by in a blur.
Here’s praying that the next eight years is full of much more adventure.
That we live in gratitude and awe together, building bonds that can endure any tribulation.
That we seek the praise of Christ and not mankind.
That we continue to inspire, serve and bless others.
That we plod diligently away at preparing for the future that God has prepared for us.
That we harvest a plentiful crop.
That we live lives of purpose – fully present in the moment.
That we never stop creating.
That we grow in ever increasing light and give Him glory.
I hope I can keep inspiring you to grab a-hold of your children’s hearts and love them with all you’ve got. I hope I can keep being the imperfect example of that homeschool mom who doesn’t have it all together, who doesn’t bake fresh bread every day, who has less than a dozen kids, who can’t sew to save her life, who is self-taught at photography and cooking but doesn’t let that stop her, who pretends to be a gardener, who makes mistakes ALL THE TIME… but keeps on keeping on – even when things are difficult.
If you get nothing else from my blog, I hope you get that I’m just like you – and you are good enough!
We are both precious in God’s sight. Tomorrow’s always a clean slate. Start over today and make something beautiful.

So come along with me! You, the teenagers, and the “back-seat boys”… and let’s blaze a trail in to the next 8 years.

What? You mean to tell me you’re a real person? LOL! I’m pretty sure that’s what I like about you and your blog. You’re not perfect. But that’s a good thing.
Congrats on your 8 years. It’s been about 6 years for me and I love being able to go back into my archives and see what’s happened and the stupid stuff I talked about. Keep up the good work!
Have a lovely day.

I’ve been blogging about 7 years. I know the feeling. I remember when I first found your site — I thought YAY!! Another homeschooling mom who I can learn from 🙂
You are a blessing.

I think I must have started reading you about 8 years ago, since you were one of the first homeschool bloggers I ever saw, and my oldest is 9. I should have commented more, I know. I’m the worst for lurking, even though I know that’s just no way to treat a blogger. 🙂 Happy bloggiversary, Heather! You’re a hero of mine!
