Just a little note before bedtime: Sometimes you have to escape for a bit and hide in a book. Especially if you are fighting spiritual battles in real life and not just along with your fictional book character friends. I like picking books that sneak a few spiritual lessons in – even through a fiction story.
I’ve been reading an old favorite lately… This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. Look how yellowed the edges are on the pages. I love the way this ancient book smells. The last time I read this one, I may have either been pregnant with my first child, or he was really little. Now he’s old enough to be reading this along with me (my how the time flies)… he’s about 10 chapters behind me right now and enjoying it almost as much as mom.
The book has reminded me again of what I already knew – praying “isn’t so insignificant”. I’ll probably finish it off tonight before I close my eyes and flip off my book light. Then I’ll pray myself to sleep. Praying right here to fight off the “darkness” while I’m snug in my room (in my polar bear pajamas) with all the lights out.
Thank you, Lord, that you listen – and that nothing in the darkness can hide from You.
Proverbs 3:24-26 (NIV)
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the Lord will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.

I read that book one week while my husband was out of town. Afterwards, I went throughout every room in the house and prayed! Kind of spooked me for a while.

Never can hurt to pray, but I don’t think God wants any of us to live in fear. I got more of a feeling of safety than fear from the book. It’s good to know you aren’t alone in your fight. 😉 #angels

Can’t say I haven’t been doing a little of that! <3
